This is something I have never heard of before. I guess it is a Chinese inspired or influenced thing to do. Make a prosperity bowl for the New Year table. Overall the bowl represents visual aspirations and a charm to invite prosperity. This tradition has a basis in Feng Shui but has been adopted in the Philippines by many people.
So, get a bowl, metal bowls of gold, silver, or brass color or meterials are recommended. If you prefer crystal then choose green aventurine or citrine as they attract wealth and luck.
Fill the bowl with uncooked rice. This is a representation of abundance, good fortune, and fertility.
Put some coins and/or rolled bills in the rice. Normally an odd number of pieces and possibly with red ribbons on the bills. Our coins are chocolate and are nice to have when removing the bowl for the year.
Maybe add some eggs. These are raw eggs and should number 13 for the lunar cycles of the coming year.
Then you can add a red envelope (Ang Pao) to symbolize abundance for the New Year. This evelope should have some money in it or some good wishes written on paper.
Another addition would be a Round fruit for prosperity and completeness.
This bowl usually stays in place until after Three Kings Day, 6 January.
Oh yeah, when you are going to remove the bowl you are supposed to use the items, cook the rice etc..
Save the bowl to use again next year.
