Import process

Importing plants was my question. I saw so many plants that I wanted to get into the garden, but finding them in the Philippines was more challenging than I wanted.

I am not sure why, but one theory is that importing plants brings with it potentially expensive products if you are commercial. So expensive plants wont really sell that well here. I mean there are plenty of plants for 60 pesos. Having rare plants here doesn’t have a big crowd I think

Do I really need to import?

Well, yes, if I want the plant the only choice is to import it myself it seems.

Now, I am not looking to import plants so I can make a business out of it. That helps the issue but doesn’t eally solve it. I still don’t have the plants.

I asked some seller in the Philippines for the specific varieties of Adenium I wanted to try my hand at; no luck. They had some plants, but they were crosses or hybrids and mostly the plants come from Thailand, or possibly Singapore. Not good news huh?

Can I import?

Importing though was possible. Actually I thought of this information in a positive light. I went to find out how I might import some Adenium. I mean what does the Philippines require when bringing in plant materials?

The importation process explained

I sent a question in to the government agency responsible for the importation of plants and they sent me a few emails explaining everything. I mean I didn’t expect so much help and information, but that is what I got.

So today I am working on applying for an account. Not sure I have all the information I may need for the process, but I like to dive in and learn.

I will apply for my account with the plants I am hoping to import. I will use one company I have found that responsibly provides plants acceptable to import. Plants that are inspected and healthy. No diseases, no problems for the Philippines, and hoepfully well packaged to make the journey here.

We shall see how this goes.
