Holly, well there I said it. I got some holly plants and they are adapting well to their new home. I am not 100% sure what plants they are though so I am making this page to document my findings and my research.

Maybe what I have is??

Chinese Holly – Ilex cornuta

Singapore Holly – Malpighia coccigera

Broadleaf Holly – Ilex asprella

Lagiwliw – Acanthus ebracteatus

    • Sun Exposure: Full sun 4-8 hours daily. This plant can stand the afternoon sun.
    • Water Use: Drought tolerant once established, moderate water, salt spray.
    • Soil Mix: Limestone (anapog), Akadama, Pumice, Lava Rock
    • Fertilizing: balanced fertilizer every 2–4 weeks during the active growing season (spring through autumn). Reduce or stop feeding during the dormant period or after a heavy repotting.
  • Styling and Maintenance
    • Pruning for Ramification: Regular pruning is essentia.
    • Defoliation: Partial or full leaf pruning can be used to reduce leaf size, making the tree appear more proportional as a miniature.
    • Wiring: Branches can be wired year-round, but monitor the wire closely may scar if the wire “bites” in during periods of fast growth.
