Adenium beginner moves are all I have at my disposal at this time. I have not been keeping them very long and I feel like I am just learning and have a long way to go.

Learning about the soil mix

There is a lot to learn here. From where I sit today I use a mix that is very similar to a bonsai mix, so mostly lava, pumice, and coarse sand. It seems to working for the most part. My plants seem to be growing well enough.

I mix a lot of substrate at a time, but since I use it for Adenium and Bonsai it doesnt last long. The real benefit of this mixture is that during time of daily heavy rain my plants still survive. Other times I water a lot. It works for me.

Planting guidelines

Mostly the substrate is done as above. Then the next question is pot. I don’t think Adenium like wide open spaces, which is wierd from a look at their WILD environment. I try to find a pot that is no more than twice the size of the root area, maybe only 50% greater in size.

The roots don’t grow out so fast that it is a major concern for being root bound. I have also grown more than one Adenium in a single pot or planter without any adverse effects that I have noticed. It worked for me.

Lastly, I did propagate some seeds for the first time. I used a soil mix that had more loamy structure for the seeds to start in. The seeds did well and grew quickly.

Basics are to wait until they have developed at least two sets of leaves before moving to another substrate or location.

In the picture above I used little bonsai pots that I had laying around and it worked for the most part.
