Growing Compostela

We have been getting a lot of new developments here in Compostela. We moved here in the hope it was a good time and that the Village would become more of a town or city

There are some housing developments in the area, but those were started long before we moved here. Recently there was a new single family home development beginning, but it is going slowly. Maybe there are 10 homes now after 2 years.

What the village was lacking are shopping and dining options.

New Market Area

The first big deal was the construction and opening of our own Jollibee. It opened quite a while ago in June of 2024.

Another change was the building of a new Reclamation area. The sea was covered with a retaining wall and soil. The plan for that space includes a new transportation hub, a modern Market, a boardwalk with shops and the biggie!

Below you can see the Transportation hub to the right. The large building to the left is not finished or occupied so far. I am not sure what goes here, maybe fruits and vegetables? To the north of the transportation hub is the already open meat market. Primarily Chicken, Fish, and Pork on the first floor of the building, no idea what is going to the second floor of the meat market.

There are still many stalls to the west side of this new construction and that is where we find rice, vegetables, and fruits for now.

Shopping Center

The Biggie is a New SM Metro supermarket. Construction on the SM Market began in March of 2025 and continues. Why is this a big deal to me? Well, Composela doesn’t have a supermarket or grocery store. We drive to Danao for shopping now. I like SM Metro stores and so this is a big deal to me. Not sure when it will open, but I will be happy when it does.

Along the sea is the boardwalk. I am hoping they build some pergolas or something to help shade spots. They did plant some largish trees a few weeks ago, but I still hope the boardwalk gets some type of shade as it would be so nice to sit near the water and have a lunch or view the Sea of Camotes.

This picture shows the new trees near the Transpoartation hub, then a lot, then the Fruit stand with the white trapal/tents and in the back is the meat market. To the right of the picture are the shops and boardwalk.

Some of the businesses are beginning to occupy the shops and there are many diverse stores coming. They have signs and seem to be building out the inside of their restaurants and basic shops.

Exciting times in Compostela. There is even some more construction happening to build a McDonald’s and a Gaisano Shopping mall or plaza. Most of that is very newly begun and I can’t really see past the metal fecning surrounding those sites.

Come visit Compostela. It is a happening place!
