I remember checking the annual rainfall chart and seeing the seasonal variance between the Feb-May and the other part of the year.

We went to asian countries and basically experienced little to no rain while traveling. A pretty good thing for the trip, but not for the garden we left behind.

Summer in the Visayas

Yes summer is from the February to May period and there is much less rainfall, especially in April. Of course this is a game of averages and each year does its own thing I guess. Seems April is the least likely month to get rain with just 5 days in the month.

Umm, 5 days? I think we had had 2 short rainshowers late at night since March. Today is May 13th. Basically two months time and little to no rain.

Now before anyone starts on the Climate Change bandwagon, give it a rest. The weather changes, each hour, each day at least. Annually, that is why they call it averages, because it isnt the same year over year.

Rain changes

Rain changes the way we need to live here. Since we have many plants and a pool it is surprising how much the lack of rain changes life.

Our pool has not gotten significant rainfall for 2 months so we have to fill it up by adding our local water to it. We have to keep it at the right level for the filter to do its job. So we add well water.

Well water here is extraced from Limestone. Limestone is VERY HARD. Hard water means reduced effect of chlorine in the water, more scaling buildup, and mostly cloudy water in the pool.

It is hard to lower the Hardness of water. PH can be lowered a bit and that helps the pool chemistry overall, but rainwater would help in a huge way

Plants

Plants are a big factor in our gardens. I have too many, but mostly I have many Bonsai. The Bonsai need water each day to live because the sol composition for them is exceptionally well draining.

We water a lot. Also, we water more often. Let’s say we water the plants. Ugh.
